ndonesia and Qatar have pledged to deepen their bilateral ties, particularly in investment and political cooperation, as they prepare to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.

President Prabowo Subianto received Qatari Foreign Minister Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi on Monday at Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta, where they discussed investment commitments and plans surrounding the coming milestone.

The two countries established diplomatic relations on Nov. 10, 1976. Qatar opened its embassy in Jakarta in November 1997, while Indonesia inaugurated its overseas mission in Doha in June 1999.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said Al-Muraikhi conveyed warm regards from the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to President Prabowo during the meeting.

"The Emir of Qatar appreciates the leadership of President Prabowo and Indonesia's economic development, especially his support for health, education and nutritious meals," Teddy said in a statement on Monday.

Prabowo and Al-Muraikhi also discussed a planned visit by Sheikh Tamami to Indonesia at the end of this year, which is expected to serve as a key moment in commemorating five decades of diplomatic ties.

Qatar also reaffirmed its commitment to invest in Indonesia, including a previously announced US$4 billion investment in various strategic sectors.
