he Australian U-19 soccer national team snatched the ASEAN U19 Boys’ Bank Sumut Championship 2026 title after defeating Thailand 2-0 in the final match at North Sumatra Main Stadium in Deli Serdang on Saturday evening.
The Young Garuda squad, meanwhile, secured the third place after beating Cambodia 1-0 in an afternoon match.
Australia’s first goal was scored through a corner kick at the 41st minute and Alexander Lech Garbowski converted the goal with a header into Thailand’s net. The 1-0 score remained until the end of the first half.
Thailand tried hard to equalize in the second half by launching several attacks built by striker Itthimon Tipanet. However, it was not easy for the Young War Elephants to breach the solid defense mounted by the Young Socceroos.
A golden opportunity to score a goal appeared at the 54th minute through Itthimon but he failed to convert it into a goal.
Instead, it was Australia who manage to double its advantage 2-0 at the injury time of the second half. Beckham Baker’s left foot kick from the penalty box shattered Thailand’s net at the 90+7 minute. Thus, securing Australia’s victory and its sixth title at the event.
Previously, Australia won the AFF U-19 Championship in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2016 and 2019.
